Just one week into the New Year and those who haven鈥檛 already broken their New Year鈥檚 resolutions are struggling with them. So why do we bother with the annual promises of self-improvement? Jane talks to comedian Jenny Eclair and writer Viv Groskop.

With an increasing divorce rate and ageing population, the number of single people in need of care in the UK is on the rise. One consequence of this is that more and more individuals are taking on the care of an ex-partner. But what emotional difficulties come with the role? And what legal barriers stand in the way? Jane talks to Emily Holzhausen from and Rachel, who took on the primary care of her ex-husband three and a half years ago after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Eva Dolan was shortlisted for Debut Dagger Competition when she was just a teenager.听Her debut novel is now published, Long Way 91热爆, the start of a new crime series featuring two detectives from the local Hate Crimes Unit in Peterborough.听The book opens with the discovery of a body, a man who has been burnt alive in a suburban garden shed. The two detectives find themselves drawn into the world of the migrant worker, legal and illegal,听 working and often abused as cheap foreign labour in the fields, the factories and the pubs of the town.听

Sex workers in China are thought to have been detained by the听state and held听in an adminstrative听system known as "custody and education". The听system is听overseen by public security officials rather than judges and unlike prisoners,听the detainees are听made to pay听living costs and take compulsory tests for sexually transmitted听diseases. The original intention听was to penalise unlawful behaviour that did not reach the level of a criminal offence but it has became "a penalty even harsher than criminal penalties," according to听a new report froma health and human rights group which wants the system abolished.
