Consumer groups react angrily to news that one of the big six energy firms is putting up its prices next month by almost three times the rate of inflation.

Consumer groups say the UK's other major energy suppliers could also raise their prices, after SSE announces an increase of more than 8% in their domestic bills. The government's called the rise 'shocking', but says it won't intervene. Small investors have been favoured over large ones in the allocation of Royal Mail shares. The vast majority of private investors will get the bare minimum, seven hundred and fifty pounds worth. The five per cent of individuals who applied for more than ten thousand pounds will get nothing. Also, the leader of Greenpeace International explains why he is offering himself as "human bait" in return for the release of twenty-eight of their activists and two journalists, who are being held in a Russian jail.
