Careless motorists who hog lanes, tailgate or queue jump can now be punished with on-the-spot police fines and three points on your licence.

For other offences, like using a mobile phone while driving, penalties are going up. Is there a need for the new rules? Are they practical?

Does something really need to be done about drivers who don't know what they are doing? Are there too many tailgaters and middle lane hoggers?
