Episode 6
Topical debate with Sally Magnusson. Should Britain take in refugees from Syria? Is organised religion letting down the faithful? And should lads' mags cover up?
Sally Magnusson and her guests - Reverend Sally Hitchiner, broadcaster Bobby Friction and Daily Telegraph columnist Tim Stanley - discuss the week's ethical issues. This week:
Should Britain take In Syrian refugees?
The death toll in the Syrian conflict is over 100,000 and as many as two million people are thought to have been displaced. Many are fleeing the country to live in vast refugee camps outside their homeland, with the hope that the fighting will end. The UN says the countries surrounding Syria are being overwhelmed by the influx of people - and other countries, including Britain, may be asked to take in thousands of refugees. So should we open our doors or are there better ways of tackling the crisis?
Is organised religion letting down the faithful?
Bobby Friction argues that days of organised religion are numbered. He believes that religious buildings and books are no longer as relevant as they once were. Bobby envisages a future where people move away from communal religions and find their own personal faith.
Should lads mags cover up?
Supermarkets have told lads' magazines to cover up and be more 'modest' or be taken off the shelves. The stores are responding to concern about images of scantily clad women on the covers. Is this crackdown a long overdue action or is it an over reaction? Sun page 3 model Lucy Collett, Kat Banyard from UK Feminista and editor of Nuts magazine Dominic Smith join in the debate.
