Pitkennedy School
Restoration of historic properties. Pitkennedy School in Angus was once the cornerstone of a community. Can a beautiful home emerge from this Victorian building?
Friends Charlotte and Helen have always dreamed of saving a neglected building steeped in history, and they certainly found one. Sitting on a windswept hill in rolling farmland, Pitkennedy School in Angus was once the cornerstone of a community. Generation after generation were educated within the old walls during its 150-year history until the school bell rang for the final time in 2006. Since then the old building has begun to rot and the spiral of decay has been quick.
As work begins, locals start to take notice of the school once again; while within the archives, voices of the first children and teachers start to be heard. A picture of rural 19th-century life emerges as we discover that an act of generosity by a wealthy Victorian was where it all began. Meanwhile, further research places this tiny school at the beginning of a revolution in education and school building that would change Britain forever. The new owners still face their biggest challenge - can these novices create a beautiful home from a neglected old Victorian school?
