The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that 'whole life' tariffs given to 49 prisoners in England and Wales breached their human rights. The Westminster government has said it is appalled at the ruling and believes the majority of the public agree. In Scotland we have no whole life tariffs and all prisoners are set a term to allow parole hearings but the Scottish Conservatives believe that we should also introduce whole life terms. Should a life sentence be exactly that, for life?
