Beyond ChurchÌý
The Reverend Martin Poole is the founder of Beyond Church which encourages people to explore non-traditional ways of being a Christian through artistic expression.
Ìý
Beyond Church began five years ago because Martin wanted to develop the spiritual curiosity of local people without forcing them into the conventional setting of a church
Ìý
Past projects include:
-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Series of art installations celebrating the elements earth, air, wind and fire. Air was held in a park maze, blowing bubbles into the wind people meditated on the Hebrew word for breath and spirit.
-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Advent calendar beach huts. Each hut features an art installation and one opens to the public every night. 400 people attended on Christmas Eve.
-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Perspex cross on the streets of Brighton last Lent for passers-by to post prayers and wishes in.
-ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Audio meditation around the city. Based on silent disco technology, Martin commissioned artists to make audio clips that would start up in the walker’s headphones when they came within the required distance of a transmitter, concealed somewhere near the artwork they were expected to contemplate.
