Episode 14
Joe Crowley catches up with people who decided to renovate empty homes. Joe visits Michael in Birmingham and finds out how his plan to create a hi-tech bachelor pad is progressing.
Joe is back in Birmingham to see how student Michael Hims is getting on with his property. When Joe first met Michael, he had taken the first step onto the property ladder and bought a 1930s semi with hopes of transforming it into a hi-tech bachelor pad. On a tight budget and with no renovation experience, Michael had planned to do all the work himself - an ambitious goal for even a seasoned developer. Now, 15 months on, Joe returns to find that the renovation has experienced some unexpected setbacks, but Michael's determination to create his ideal home is far from wavering.
We also visit Stoke on Trent, where the council are running a pioneering scheme to sell 35 empty homes for one pound each, and we catch up with empty property officer Jason Hall in his mission to save abandoned homes in Richmond.
