Fate lies at the heart of this concert: the fate of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers in Romeo and Juliet and in Tchaikovsky's gripping and dramatic Fourth Symphony where "fate hangs above your head like the sword of Damocles." Bright and celebratory, Bart贸k's Second Piano Concerto has at its centre one of his most mysterious evocations of night.
