The government is been urged to bring in a 'welfare cash card' that could be used to stop claimants buying booze, fags and lottery cards. Is it a good idea?

The government's been urged to bring in a "welfare cash card".

The Conservative MP Alec Shelbrooke is fronting a debate on the idea this week.

It would work like a debit card -- but the government could use it to stop people from spending their benefits on things like booze, fags, SKY TV and lottery cards.

What do you think? Is it a good idea?

Should claimants be told how to spend their benefits? Or would it stigmatise people who have to use the card?
