Ireland - Flags and emblems are a sensitive issue in Northern Ireland; violence flared up there after Belfast City Council made its controversial decision to restrict the flying of the Union flag over City Hall. This followed a summer of heightened tensions between Northern Ireland's Catholic and Protestant communities; riots in September left dozens of police officers injured and just more than a month ago, a prison officer was killed in a suspected dissident IRA attack, the first such attack in years. We explore how these issues are affecting local communities, try to unpack how deeply held divisions are reconciled and consider what the Church's role is in all of this.
