Scarlett is determined to forge ahead with her mission for Madonna despite Jimmy's objections. Will Christina admit her true feelings to Alice or lose her for good?
Bob's feeling so low that if it weren't for apprentice Alicehe wouldn't even be bothered opening the garage. However, Alice tenses as DCI Donald drops off his car and he makes it clear to her that she's on his radar. Alice is grateful when Bob helps her prep for her driving test and heads off, happy. Kelly-Marie's worried by Bob's lethargy, and persuades him to see the O'Haras at the Community Centre. Molly is full of complaints, but Kelly-Marie's more concerned by Bob's being so quiet. She calls him on it, but he shuts her down, so she heads off to work to make Eileen pay for evicting the family. At home, Bob finds it a struggle to keep a front up for Stella. At work, he musters enough enthusiasm to be pleased for Alice passing her test and lets her drive Donald's car, but she accidentally reverses it into a metal can, smashing the brake light. When parts dealer Charlie charges Bob over the odds for a replacement, Alice pays him back by stealing tools from his van. When Charlie accuses Alice of theft, Bob is saddened to find he's right. Donald arrives to see his smashed light and hear Alice has been stealing. Alice expects Bob to cover her back, but he hasn't got the energy anymore. Donald stormily reminds her how much trouble she could have been in. She promises to behave. Learning Alice has been in trouble with the police, Bob's had enough and fires her. Meantime, Kelly-Marie asks Stella what's wrong with Bob. When Stella puts it down to IVF, Kelly suggests she and Bob need to talk. Stella finds him at the pub. When Bob tries to deflect her from a conversation with a kiss, Stella storms off. Stevie's attempt to get Bob to open up fails, and Bob heads off to buy beer. When Big Bob gives him an earful for sacking Alice, he seeks solace on Deek's bench. Jimmy joins him. Bob can't deal with company, so hurries off to hide out in the garage, where he breaks down. Learning how worried Stella is about Bob, Kelly-Marie finds him and brings him home. When Bob admits how bad he's feeling. Stella moots he may be depressed. Bob won't accept there's anything wrong, but she's hit a nerve. He stays up all night worrying. Stella finds him shattered next morning and he agrees to go to Miriam for help. She diagnoses chemical depression. To try to fix things, Bob takes the medication and offers Alice her job back. He has a quiet word to Deek on the bench only to find Stella sitting next to him. They share a hopeful smile.
Gina and Kelly-Marie are appalled to learn that Scarlett has entered Madonna in a 'Little Miss Christmas' Pageant, but Scarlett wins them round. Scarlett's supposed to be working, but wants to get Madonna's outfits sorted for the Pageant, so lies to Raymond she's taking her to the doctor's. When Jimmy sees his daughter's newly-pierced ears, he puts his foot down. He wants them out. Scarlett agrees, because she's secretly ordered a pair of ruby red shoes, which are more important. Jimmy's furious when he finds out about the shoes and realises she's spent money on them that was meant for Gina. However, seeing Madonna's joy at her new shoes, his heart melts. Scarlett has won. To Molly's delight, Scarlett also persuades Raymond to let the O'Haras live with him.
Christina is thrilled to learn Alice has passed her test, but angry that Bob has fired her. She confronts Bob, but gets nowhere. Learning that Alice has to leave Shieldinch to find other work, she is gutted, she's never felt like this about anyone before. Alice admits she likes her too. Later hearing Alice is staying, Christina is ecstatic. They hug but fear someone is watching. Alice checks, but no one's there. Christina admits she doesn't want anyone to know about them till she's ready to tell people. Alice assures her it'll be their little secret.
