Fanfare for the Common Man
Greg Lake and Keith Emerson from prog-rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer remember the '70s with Johnnie Walker.
Johnnie Walker continues his voyage into the world of progressive rock with Keith Emerson and Greg Lake.
The prog-rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer was born when Greg Lake (bass, guitar and vocals), formerly of King Crimson, played alongside the flamboyant and talented Keith Emerson, keyboardist of The Nice in the early 70's. Excited by how well they played together they went looking for a third and approached Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster to take up the role of drums and percussion.
They were hugely successful, making 8 albums in the 1970's and going on to sell over 40 million albums in total. Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records claimed he signed them because he could sell out 20,000-seater stadiums on the reputation of the players alone, before they even put a record out. Greg Lake and Keith Emerson remember the hits, the albums, the gigs and the marmite nature of progressive rock in the 1970's.
