Take It Easy with Glenn Frey

Johnnie chats to Glenn Frey of The Eagles, while Richard Hawley remembers his childhood in Sheffield.

Glenn Frey, one of the longest serving members of The Eagles - Johnnie's favourite 70s band - is this week's guest .

Glenn was born in Michigan in 1948, learned to play the guitar after watching The Beatles in 1964, and met Don Henley in Linda Ronstadt's backing band in 1971. Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon joined Glenn and Don and The Eagles were born, set to be the sun-drenched sound of Californian rock in the 1970s.

Johnnie talks to Glenn about the band's huge success, turning out classic hits from Tequila Sunrise, New Kid In Town, Take It To The Limit and of course Hotel California, many of which Glenn wrote or co-wrote. The album Hotel California went platinum after only one week but its success left the band exhausted. Johnnie finds out what happened as the band started to fracture.

Also on the show singer-songwriter Richard Hawley goes back to the 1970s to remember his childhood in Sheffield. From Pan's People dancing to Walk On the Wild Side, to women dancing around their handbags at his local Working Men's Club disco, Richard remembers the music he grew up with his customary warmth and wit.
