Lord Ashdown -High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina (2002-2006)

As the UK Foreign Secretary describes Syria as "the next Bosnia", Sarah Montague talks to Paddy Ashdown, who was the UN's man in Bosnia. He says the West is getting it wrong again.

Turkey has accused Syria of a "hostile act" for shooting down one of its military jets. It hasn't yet called for either NATO or the UN to respond. But if it did, how would they react? NATO is reluctant to get involved and at the UN, Russia and China have blocked previous attempts to do something. Britain's Foreign Secretary has warned that Syria risks becoming "the next Bosnia" slipping into civil war while the world watches. Sarah Montague talks to Paddy Ashdown, who was the UN's man in Bosnia. He says that yet again the West is getting it wrong.
