The remarkable story of one 5 live listener who defied predictions by the medical profession and recovered from locked-in syndrome. Just over two years ago 41 year old Kate Allat from Dore in Sheffield had a massive stroke. She was given a fifty percent chance of survival and was in a coma for three days. When she came round she was diagnosed with Locked-In Syndrome - that's when the body shuts down, but the mind remains active. She could only communicate by blinking and her family were told she would never walk or talk again. Kate says she felt like she'd been buried alive - and at first wanted to die. Nine weeks after her stroke she moved her thumb one millimetre. This gave her hope that one day she would get her life back. Now, she is walking, talking and running around after her 3 children.
