This week Graham Spiers sits in for Ricky Ross, and his first hour guest is mountaineer and author Cameron McNeish. Graham finds out why the wilderness of Scotland continues to spiritually nourish and inspire him.
In the month that a new campaign is launched to encourage people to move their bank and savings accounts to more ethical or socially useful alternatives, Graham talks to Professor David Hillier of Strathclyde Business School, Simon Barrow of Ekklesia, and the Reverend Liz Henderson, Minister of Richmond Craigmiller, and finds out if society is ready to make such a dramatic change, and if they do, what could be the brave new financial world we could find ourselves in?
On last week's programme we heard about Gerard Burns' painting of 'The Road to Emmaus'. It's part of an exhibition for Lentfest, the arts festival organised by the Archdiocese of Glasgow. Gerard gave an extra layer of meaning to his painting by using as his models three men who're living at the homeless charity, Emmaus Glasgow. On this week's programme, reporter Anna Magnusson went to capture the moment when Mark, Robbie and Craig seeing the finished painting for the first time. Our reporter, Anna Magnusson, met Gerard and the guys outside Glasgow University's Memorial Chapel where the Lentfest exhibition is being shown.
As International Women's Day approaches a women's festival in Dundee with be hosting workshops for everyone about the cultural significance of the hijab. Graham will be talking to Samina Ansari, of the Muslim Women's Resource Centre about why they want to attract Muslims and non-Muslims alike to help overturn the common misconceptions about a piece of clothing that has become one of the most provocative talking points of the 21st century.
