Viviane Reding - Vice President, European Commission

Sarah Montague asks European Justice Commissioner Vivane Reding how she will protect Europe's founding ideals of democracy and freedom amidst crises in Hungary and Greece.

If you put information about yourself on a website such as Facebook or Google, who owns that information? The European Union wants to put new rules in place to make it clear that you do, and you have the power to restrict the way that information is used, and if you want, delete it forever. It would mean a radical shake up of existing laws. It's being proposed by the European Commission vice president, Vivane Reding. As Justice Commissioner she has the job of protecting Europe's founding ideals of democracy and freedom. But won't a political crisis in Hungary and the economic crisis in Greece make this an impossible task?
