Until this year he was chairman and before that chief executive of Marks and Spencer, the shop that sells more clothes than any other in the UK. Recent figures suggest the high street is struggling with sales down, shops closing, and confidence low. So what are the chances that Britain and the world can avoid tipping back into recession?
