Of all the uprisings in the Middle east this year Yemen's is the hardest to read. In the spring street protests against the government led to violent clashes, President Saleh himself was badly injured and is nursing his wounds in neighbouring Saudi Arabia. But he hasn't quit and his inner circle continues to defend the old regime.
