Ulster Orchestra - Harty, Saint-Saens, Nielsen

Concert in which Bramwell Tovey conducts the Ulster Orchestra. Harty: With the Wild Geese. Saint-Saens: Piano Concerto No 2 (with Benjamin Grosvenor). Nielsen: Symphony No 4.

Presented by Catherine Bott.

Harty's compelling inspiration was his love for Ireland and Irish legend. For Nielsen, "music is life, and like life, inextinguishable" and that certainly applies to this, his most popular symphony, full of drama and the will to live. Saint- Sa毛ns' Concerto is wonderfully spontaneous, beginning like Bach and ending like Offenbach, an exhilarating and unstoppable tour de force.
