First of two programmes that see farmer Jimmy Doherty ask what really goes into supermarket food. Originally appearing on 91热爆1, this special one-hour version has been re-cut for use in schools.
Setting up his own food factory in a barn, Jimmy not only looks at how our food is put together but also at some of the tricks which are used in food production. Visits to real-life food factories add to the mix, revealing some tantalising trade secrets.
Episode one of 'Second helpings' sees Jimmy make his own chicken kievs, frozen chips, low-fat mayonnaise, fish fingers and even prawn crackers! Visits to two very different food factories reveal the science behind pre-cooked rice and chocolate mini rolls, while visits to broccoli and raspberry farms show that both time and temperature are of the essence.
Suitable for learners of all ages, this compilation of short films can be used to reveal the science behind our food and is ideal for encouraging discussion and debate.
