With Britain's population living longer than ever, could robots provide care and companionship? Plus, the week the Beatles came to Weston-super-Mare, and carnival time in Somerset.

With Britain's population living longer than ever before, Alastair McKee explores whether robots might one day provide care and companionship for elderly people. The two Bristol universities are developing 'robot carers' which could help out around the house but welfare groups are sceptical about whether machines could ever replace one-to-one contact with other human beings.

As Beatles fans celebrate the band's 50th anniversary, local expert John Hutson remembers the week they came to Weston-super-Mare. The Beatles played concerts twice a day in the Odeon cinema, just at the point they were becoming internationally famous.

And it's carnival time in Somerset - but who will win the coveted award for the best float in Bridgwater's illuminated procession? A behind-the-scenes look at the Marketeers Carnival Club as they try to recapture the prize they last won in 1985.
