West Midlands Police say the English Defence League is encouraging Islamic extremism.

Speaking exclusively on 5 live Breakfast, Superintendent John Larkin accused accused the EDL of making the problem worse, and said that their marches created "fertile ground" for recruiting potential terrorists.

Tommy Robinson from the English Defence League says it's the other way round: the EDL's numbers are swelling because of Islamic extremism.

And Salma Yaqoob from Respect argues that the Muslim community is trying to distance itself from extremism.

So Is the EDL creating a more divided society or were the feelings of resentment always there? Who's fuelling who?
