When Ruth is implicated in a serious mistake, her professionalism and mental stability are called into question. Can she prove her innocence, or is she suffering a relapse?
Despite her day getting off to a ropey start, Ruth's getting along well with the Brodies. She even covers for Leyla when she makes mistakes in the surgery. All seems to be going well when Ruth heads off for her nursery trip with Eilidh and Andy but little does she know how bad her day is about to get. While Ruth is out Leyla, in a fluster, drops some files and loses a vital message. As a result, Michael gives a patient the flu jab who then goes on to have an allergic reaction. The patient collapses in The Oyster Caf茅 and an ambulance is called. Michael is angry as he suspects they have made a mistake in the surgery. As Michael reads Leyla and Ruth the riot act, Ruth can't understand what went wrong. Leyla reminds Ruth that she said she was having a forgetful day and implies this was Ruth's fault. Ruth is horrified by the lack of support and starts to doubt herself. Ruth's upset worsens when Andy reacts badly and local tongues start to wag. Meanwhile, Leyla discovers Ruth's note and realises that she was telling the truth. Leyla is about to say something when Ruth storms in, determined to prove her innocence, and clashes badly with Michael. Desperate to make a go of things with Michael and the surgery, Leyla is too scared to admit the truth.
As Ruth's paranoia grows, she becomes nervy and edgy. She rows furiously with Andy, revealing a side of her personality he has never seen before. When Scott comes to Ruth's aid, Andy starts to feel terribly redundant. He is alarmed to learn that Ruth has been violent towards her loved ones in the past - this isn't the Ruth he knows and loves. Fully convinced she is unwell and must have made an error, Ruth apologises to Michael and Leyla while Leyla keeps quiet about the truth.
Elsewhere, Roisin sends distant cousin Annie to Iona with the instruction that Iona is to furnish her with a job and place to stay. Annie's not long in Shieldinch before she's ruffling feathers, particularly Eileen's. Molly manipulates another error at the surgery to bag a cleaning job and takes great pleasure in announcing to Leyla that they are now work colleagues. Nicole and Charlie grow closer, with Charlie still horribly unaware she is only fourteen. Murray gets Gina's idea of a luxury break badly wrong and Jimmy is far from wooed by Scarlett's clinical pregnancy talk.
