Simon Rattle and his renowned Berlin Philharmoniker bring a feast of Austro-German classics to the Proms, in two concerts on successive nights, beginning with symphonies by Beethoven and Mahler - the youthful, precocious piece with which Mahler launched his symphonic odyssey, and Beethoven's punchy 4th Symphony, a work packed with drama beneath its sunny surfaces.
