David Dimbleby and his team bring you the results of the closest election for a generation. With reporters at more constituencies than any other broadcaster, the team report on the intrigue and excitement as it happens.

Jeremy Paxman interrogates the winners and losers, Emily Maitlis and Jeremy Vine use the latest graphics technology to analyse the results, Fiona Bruce has the latest news and Andrew Neil holds a special event at the London Eye in the shadow of Parliament with an array of top guests.

The first results for Northern Ireland come in just after midnight with Peter Robinson, leader of the DUP, defeated by Naomi Long of the Alliance Party in Belfast East, the first major scalp of the contest. Sinn Fein take Tyrone West and Belfast West and the DUP are successfully returned for North Antrim, Upper Bann, East Antrim and Lagan Valley. The SDLP win Belfast South.

The Liberal Democrats keep Torbay, Thornbury & Yate and Fife North East, while Plaid Cymru win Arfon and the Conservatives win both Kingswood and Battersea, both from Labour. The Conservatives hold Putney, The Wrekin and Christchurch. Conservative Ken Clarke is returned again for his Rushcliffe seat and Labour hold their seats in Sedgefield, Darlington and the City of Durham.

The first result from Wales shows Plaid Cymru winning Arfon from Labour. While the Labour party hold their seats in the Vale of Clwyd, Islwyn and Ynys Mon and win back Blaenau Gwent from People's Voice.

The first results from Scotland show Labour holding their seats for Rutherglen & Hamilton West, East Lothian and Motherwell & Wishaw while Gordon Brown Holds his seat in Kircaldy. The SNP hold on to Na H-Eileanan An Iar (The Western Isles).
