Philharmonia/Salonen
Presented by Petroc Trelawny. Philharmonia/Esa-Pekka Salonen. Benjamin: Dance Figures. Stravinsky: Violin Concerto (soloist: Viktoria Mullova). Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra.
Presented by Petroc Trelawny
Viktoria Mullova joins the Philharmonia in Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, with music by George Benjamin and Bartok. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts.
Stravinsky wrote his Violin Concerto in 1931; it is one of the masterpieces of his neoclassical style, with fast toccata-like movements separating two more lyrical arias. Bart脙鲁k's great Concerto for Orchestra of 1943 was a product of his exile in New York, but is imbued with the folk melodies of his native Hungary that he spent so many years researching. The concert opens with a celebration for George Benjamin's 50th birthday year: his Dance Figures, nine choreographic sketches for orchestra dating from 2004
