Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story was first published in 1866 as part of the multiple author ‘Mugby Junction’ collection, in the Christmas edition of the periodical ‘All the Year Round’. The story is said to have been inspired by a the Clayton Tunnel crash, near Brighton, in 1861.
