From Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Gianandrea Noseda conducts the 91热爆 Philharmonic. Khachaturian: Introduction, Hopak, Sabre Dance (Gayaneh). Dallapiccola: Marsia (complete ballet).

Presented by Martin Handley.

In a concert from Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, Gianandrea Noseda conducts the 91热爆 Philharmonic in music for the ballet. With excerpts from Khachaturian's Gayaneh, a ballet in praise of Communism, which prompted some of the most enduring melodies he ever wrote, including the famous Sabre Dance.

These are followed by Dallapiccola's ballet Marsia, which takes its name from the Greek satyr Marsyas. The suggestions of Ravel and even Respighi lend warmth and lyricism to a work that also features grinding rhythms and great pathos.
