PCM 04 - Scottish Ensemble

From Cadogan Hall. Scottish Ensemble/Jonathan Morton in string music spanning three centuries. Purcell: Chacony. Mozart: Divertimento in F, K138. John Woolrich: Capriccio.

From Cadogan Hall, London. Presented by Louise Fryer.

The Scottish Ensemble is directed by Jonathan Morton in a rich variety of string music spanning three centuries.

At the programme's heart is a new piece by John Woolrich, framed by classic works by Mozart and Purcell. Stravinsky's mercurial Concerto of 1946 casts an ironic eye back to the musical past as it extracts every ounce of colour and contrast from the strings. With its disjointed motor rhythms, the music twists and turns, alternately maladroit and elegant, high-spirited and nostalgic.
