Martin Handley presents the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with soprano Rebecca Evans and conductor Charles Mackerras in a concert of music by Mozart and Beethoven.
Presented by Martin Handley.
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment led by their emeritus conductor Charles Mackerras return to their roots with a concert of music by Viennese masters Mozart and Beethoven. Works include the overture and four arias written by Mozart for his opera The Marriage of Figaro, although the versions performed here didn't all make it to the edition that is commonly known today.
This is followed by the Coronation Mass and the Symphony No 32, both written in 1779 shortly after Mozart returned from his disastrous trip to Paris. Beethoven completes the programme, with his bucolic Pastoral Symphony and its musical impressions of nature and rustic life.
