John Shea presents the 91热爆 Symphony Orchestra under ENO's music director Edward Gardner in a concert performance of Adriana Mater, the second opera by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.

Set in an unspecified country in wartime, the work takes an unflinching look at the brutalising influence of war. Adriana, a young girl, is raped by a soldier, and then gives birth to a son, Yonas. She keeps the facts of his origins hidden, but when he finds out the truth, he vows to find and kill his father.
