CELTIC LANDS AND LANGUAGE
Celts are often thought of as the race that inhabited post Roman Britain but were forced out to the western edges of the continent by the arrival of the Germanic tribes. Another interpretation is that the race colonised a world which stretched from North Africa to Iceland where the sea was not a barrier but a highway for trade and communication. How much of this Celtic world has survived and what do the modern Celtic nations now share in terms of culture and language?

Sandi Toksvig is joined by two Celts who travelled in search of an essentially Celtic experience; artist John Rogers captured the landscapes of the Atlantic seaboard on his canvas and writer and television presenter Manchan Magan journeyed round Ireland speaking only Irish Gaelic.
