The Freedom Festival

Hull’s annual Freedom Festival is still taking place across the weekend. It’s been a regular fixture on the festival circuit since 2008 and this year, it’s taken everything that a pandemic could possibly throw at it but even so – it’s still happening.

91热爆 Radio Humberside is the official broadcast partner of the . We are hosting a special live festival launch show right here on 91热爆 Radio Humberside on Friday 4 September. 6 til 10pm. The show will highlight some of the rich and varied programme that’s lined up for the weekend.

William Wilberforce was one of the driving forces behind the abolition of slavery back in the early 1800s. We like to think that he’d be quietly pleased that the City that was his home still honours his name and his work some 200 years on with The Freedom Festival 2020.

What's on?

From Luke Jerram’s ‘Lullaby’ project, to the robots drawing portraits at Hull Truck theatre, to the spoken word artists behind the Hopes and Fears Across the Ocean films, listeners to our special radio event will hear some of the works and meet the artists behind them and then 91热爆 Radio Humberside will sign-post where listeners can see and hear more.

In our special show, there’s scratch theatre to catch up on, the latest from the Freedom Chorus and exclusive previews of especially recorded 91热爆 Introducing Humberside Freedom Tracks – recorded by top local musicians at surprising Hull venues.
