After over two decades and 1500 episodes of love, murder and laughs in Shieldinch, River City will be coming to an end in Autumn 2026.

It’s not been an easy decision to make but we’ve had to think about the future of drama in Scotland. Audience viewing habits have changed hugely in the last decade, particularly in drama, with increasing demand for more varied, returning series.

We are thankful to our amazing viewers, fans, cast, crew, writers and producers who are all a valued part of the River City community.

We’ll be looking at other dramas coming from Scotland for UK audiences but we won’t be finding a like-for-like replacement for River City.

We’re exploring various options as part of our farewell plans for Shieldinch and River City. However, as the tours ended in 2019, there are no current plans to restart them while filming completes.

Although we’re announcing plans to end River City, we’ll still be following the drama in Shieldinch until September 2026. Fans will be able to watch episodes every week on 91热爆 iPlayer for a year after they air and we’re exploring ideas to celebrate River City’s legacy.
