Who are Twenty One Pilots?

You've probably heard Twenty One Pilots, whose "Stressed Out" single is riding high in the top 20 right now.

But who are the duo behind that indelible chorus about turning back time to the good old days? And who is the Blurryface character in the lyrics?

Singer Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun hail from Columbus, Ohio.

They were college friends who formed the band in 2009 - Tyler named them after All My Sons, a play by Arthur Miller about the moral dilemma faced by a man who knowingly sold faulty warplane parts in World War II - and caused the death of 21 pilots.

The band have been known to tell a few porkies about how they met - in a train crash, on Tinder...

They've released four albums to date.

2009's Twenty One Pilots and 2011's Regional At Best were both self-released, but their big breakthrough came with 2013's Vessel, which went gold in the US. Its follow-up, 2015's Blurryface, reached No 1 across the pond - and, with a top 20 showing and the success of "Stressed Out", opened them up to a British audience too.

The band often wear masks on stage and in photo shoots.

In their own words, it's because they're "trying to create something that’s a bit more faceless, that can represent a group of people or have people relate to it." It's certainly something their fans have picked up on.

But who is Blurryface?

On "Stressed Out", Tyler sings: "My name's Blurryface and I care what you think." It's also the title of their new album. According to the band, Blurryface is a character who represents insecurities - also a theme of their new single, "Ride".
