5 of the best Asian Network Vaisakhi live sessions

Vaisakhi is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. It is the Sikh New Year festival and will be celebrated on April 14 this year. It also commemorates 1699, the year Sikhism was born as a collective faith.

To celebrate Vaisakhi, Asian Network holds extra special live sessions and we have delved into the archives to unearth a handful of performances from some of the biggest stars.

1 | Shin and DCS perform a classic

In 2008, bhangra heavyweights Shin and DCS dropped an exclusive performance of Vaisakhi Boliyan.

2 | Moneyspinner and Banger tell us what it's like to celebrate Vaisakhi聽in the UK

In 2014, Moneyspinner and Banger dropped by 91热爆 Birmingham to chat to Dipps Bhamrah about what Vaisakhi means to them.

They also heard from listeners across the world from Toronto to Italy about their Vaisakhi traditions, before the boys performed a handful of songs.

3 | Jaz Dhami and his band gives us three religious renditions

In 2011, award-winning British Asian artist Jaz Dhami and his band performed a three-song Vaisakhi live session.

Below is the moving rendition of Baja Wala, a song which : "was set on the birth of the Khalsa and final living Sikh Guru - Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji".

4 | Satinder Sartaaj performs at Maida Vale

In 2014, Punjabi-Sufi singer and poet Satinder Sartaaj performed an extra special four-song set from the 91热爆's legendary Maida Vale studios.

Here's his sensational performance of Cheerey Waalea from his third album Cheerey Wala which dropped in 2011.

5 | Sukshinder Shinda and Jazzy B

In 2010, Sukshinder Shinda and Jazzy B dropped by to perform Bole So Nihal De Jaikare from their joint album Satguru Mera.
