91Èȱ¬ Radio 1Xtra signs new young talent

91Èȱ¬ Radio 1Xtra has today announced a refresh to its schedule, which includes several brand new DJ signings to the network, giving them their first big break on national radio.

The changes involve a new Early Breakfast Show, new presenters for the station's weekly specialist R&B and Hip Hop MIX shows, as well as an exciting new line-up for the In New 1Xtra DJs We Trust programme.

The new schedule comes into effect from Monday 26 April.

Twenty-three-year-old Nick Bright, who has been working as a broadcast assistant at 1Xtra, and who finishes his radio production and media studies course at the University of Westminster next month, will present the Early Breakfast Show (Monday to Saturday, 4-7am).

Nick Bright says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me, stepping up from community and student radio to having my own show on 1Xtra. It's a station that I love and have grown up with and I can't wait to get started".

CJ Beatz will take over the R&B MIX Show (Tuesdays 1-4am), while Charlie Sloth & The Movement, who have recently been deputising for DJ Semtex on the station, will have their own Hip Hop MIX show (Saturdays 1-4am).

As a result of these changes, Radio 1Xtra bids farewell to DJs G Child and Sarah Love.

Ben Cooper, Deputy Controller, 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra, says: "We're thrilled to welcome these new names to the station. Radio 1Xtra must continue to evolve in order to offer our young audience the best Hip Hop and R&B music, as well as the freshest DJ talent.

"Sarah Love and G Child have both made a huge contribution to the station over the years and I wish them both the best of luck".

CJ Beatz says: "To become a part of the line-up which exists already at 1Xtra is a blessing and to be able to do what I do on a national level is an honour. The R&B MIX show, as you know it, will never be the same again!"

Charlie Sloth adds: "It's great to be doing a Hip Hop show on what is the biggest station for urban music in the UK, especially with all the success the genre has been enjoying recently. We aim to help keep the scene buzzing".

The line-up for the station's In New 1Xtra DJs We Trust programme (moving to Mondays, 1-2am), which showcases and supports the hottest new up and coming styles and DJ's, also welcomes three brand new DJs to its rotational schedule.

The new line-up is as follows: Grime Producer Swindle, Stanza from Scandalous UNLTD and Nottingham House DJ and Producer Ilmana.

Previous DJs on the In New 1Xtra DJs We Trust roster include Rusko and Redlight.
