Christmas on Radio 5 Live

Lennox Lewis, Dom Joly, Andy Parsons and Danny Wallace are part of the festive line-up on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 Live this Christmas, with a host of new documentaries, comedy, current affairs and a look back at 2008's highs and lows.

Ìý

Lennox Lewis charts the life and career of the world's first black world heavyweight boxing champion 100 years after Jack Johnson gained the crown on 26 December 1908.

Ìý

The Galveston Giant tells Johnson's story of racial prejudice, exile and imprisonment, and Lewis traces his own path to heavyweight world champion as part of the Jack Johnson legacy.

Ìý

Contributors include world boxing expert Budd Schulberg, promoter Frank Warren, commentator Steve Bunce and Johnson biographer Professor Randy Roberts.

Ìý

In Soldiers' Story those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq tell their own powerful, inspiring and often harrowing stories of war.

Ìý

There are contributions from families who have lost loved ones, and testimonies from ex-soldiers with their experiences of reintegrating back into society.

Ìý

The Victoria Derbyshire and Richard Bacon phone-ins will also discuss the issues raised in the programme.

Ìý

Colin Murray finds out what music our sports stars listen to just before they compete in Adrenalin Anthems. Did the theme from Rocky inspire our athletes to gold?

Ìý

Contributors include Olympic gold medallists Christine Ohuruogu and Victoria Pendleton, as well as footballer Jermaine Jenas, Motor GP rider James Toseland, sprinter Iwan Thomas, and musicians New Order, Glasvegas and naturally Survivor.

Ìý

Dom Joly and Danny Wallace answer all those unanswered festive questions in Dom And Danny Do Christmas – why do we kiss under the mistletoe, how long does it take Mr Christmas to deliver all his presents, and is there anyone called Ebenezer in the UK?

Ìý

Comedian Andy Parsons chairs The PMQ Show, a fast and furious topical panel show with guest contestants competing to be the Prime Minister by responding to issues of the day, as well as setting out their personal manifestos.

Ìý

However, if they fail to make the grade, the Speaker of the House, Parsons, will cut them off and move on.

Ìý

Radio 5 Live Controller, Adrian Van Klaveren, said: "Christmas is a time for fun and in Dom Joly, Danny Wallace and Andy Parsons we have some great witty voices in our Christmas programming, as well as a look back at a vintage sporting and cultural year."

Ìý

Other Christmas crackers on 5 Live include: The Movie Game, Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode quiz a celebrity panel on all things film; Tam Cowan and Stuart Cosgrove and guests take an alternative look at the 91Èȱ¬ Nations' sporting lows and highs in The Unsporting Review Of 2008; and Fighting Talk: Old Chestnuts reunites presenters past and present as Colin Murray, Johnny Vaughan and Christian O'Connell open the Fighting Talk vault to pick out the funniest, most outrageous and memorable moments from the past five series.

Ìý

Radio 5 Live will also take a look back at some of the great sporting moments of 2008: Rafa & Roger: The Greatest Final revisits this year's classic Wimbledon Final with Tim Henman and John McEnroe; John Murray presents The Ten Most Important Goals Of 2008; while John Inverdale presents highlights from the Olympic Games in The Best Of Beijing.

Ìý

There are also some of the memorable moments from 5 Live in 2008, with the Best Of Mayo, Kermode's Films Of The Year, Bacon's Best Bits, the Best Of Victoria's Phone-in, and 5 Live's News Review Of The Year.

Ìý
