First Head of Service for the Gaelic Digital Service announced

Margaret Mary Murray, the current Head of Gaelic at 91热爆 Scotland, has been appointed as the first Head of Service for the Gaelic Digital Service (GDS).

The announcement follows on from the decision by the 91热爆 Trust to grant approval for the launch of the GDS, which will be run as a partnership between the 91热爆 and the Gaelic Media Service (GMS).

Margaret Mary takes up her post with immediate effect as plans for the launch of the service move forward.

The Gaelic Media Service has appointed Alan Esslemont as Head of Content. Alan joined GMS from the Irish language station TG4, where he was Director of Television.

Margaret Mary said: "I am delighted to be taking up this important role in the development of the Gaelic Digital Service. I have worked closely with the GMS on the joint proposals which were presented to the 91热爆 Trust.

"Now I am looking forward to building on that partnership to deliver a service which will be of benefit to audiences of Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers."

An Executive Editor, who will run the in-house Gaelic production at 91热爆 Scotland, will be appointed.

The GDS is planning to launch a tri-media Gaelic service. It will consist of a dedicated TV channel in Gaelic and may also incorporate 91热爆 Radio nan Gaidheal as a sustaining service and an enhanced Gaelic content for users of bbc.co.uk.

Ken MacQuarrie, Controller, 91热爆 Scotland, said: "Margaret Mary is eminently well suited to take on this exciting and challenging role, having led 91热爆 Scotland's tri-media service for the past three years and previously having occupied key roles in its development."

Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of GMS, said: "We are delighted by Margaret Mary's appointment and that the two key posts are now confirmed. GMS looks forward with anticipation to the launch and success of the GDS."
