Saving Planet Earth – Live


The Saving Planet Earth season culminates in a star-studded fundraising spectacular on Friday 6 July on 91Èȱ¬ One.

Ìý

Hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, with Graham Norton, the event comes live from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in London.

Ìý

Special guests include Sir David Attenborough, and highlights of the evening range from live links around the globe to some of the conservation projects featured during Saving Planet Earth, as well as performances from a wide array of music artists.

Ìý

The celebrity advocates from the 91Èȱ¬ One documentaries – including Will Young, Nick Knowles, Jack Osbourne, Fiona Bruce and Phil Tufnell – pop in to relive the highs and lows of their trips and explain why Saving Planet Earth has been a life-changing experience for them.

Ìý

Some of the 91Èȱ¬'s team of natural history experts – including Kate Humble, Michaela Strachan, Simon King and Jonathan Scott – are on hand to explain the threats facing our planet's wildlife.

Ìý

The fundraising event also features exclusive music performances and collaborations from international artists such as Natasha Bedingfield, Beverley Knight, Avril Lavigne, Katherine Jenkins and Juan Diego Florez, amongst others.

Other stars asking the public to donate to the 91Èȱ¬ Wildlife Fund include Michael Parkinson, Zoe Lucker and Ronnie Corbett.

Ìý

A specially selected team of celebrities travel to Africa to tackle one of the world's toughest marathons. Run alongside zebras and giraffes high in the Kenyan mountains, the competitors face dehydration and cramp in the gruelling ordeal.

Viewers can find out if the Saving Planet Earth team make it across the finishing line by watching Saving Planet Earth – Live on Friday 6 July.

An interactive, dedicated website allows the public to not only donate to the 91Èȱ¬ Wildlife Fund (charity number 1119286) but also discover more about the background to the series.

There are behind the scenes video diaries from the celebrities on location, fact files about the endangered animals, details of how the projects were chosen and links to the charities that are supporting them.

From around the globe, local conservationists explain how viewers' money will help their projects. Viewers can also find out what action they can take to help save the world's endangered wildlife.

Via links to the 91Èȱ¬ Where I Live sites, viewers can learn more about endangered wildlife in their area and find out how they can get involved in local conservation projects.

Saving Planet Earth – the book

Ìý

Saving Planet Earth, by Tony Juniper, will be published by Collins on Monday 4 June.

Ìý

Illustrated by stunning images, it is an eye-opening and frank account of mankind's effect on the natural world through destruction of biodiversity, global warming and pillage of resources. And it looks at what we can do to save it for the enjoyment of generations to come.
