"I always wanted to do Sherlock Holmes," says Kemp. "I've read about half the books and watched most of the films and seen lots of different actors play the great detective.
Ìý
"I loved the scripts – they have a contemporary feel while at the same time respecting the original stories, and they were packed with action and adventure. They also offered an opportunity to recreate Victorian London. There are terrific locations in Dublin, where we filmed, for this – places that you can really build on and use. We were very lucky.
Ìý
"I'm a massive fan of Jonathan Pryce, so it was a real thrill to work with him. I first saw him in Brazil when I was 14 and that's when I knew I wanted to direct. So this was really my dream job.
Ìý
"I was a child actor, so I know how difficult it is to act as a youngster. We saw many kids for the parts and the ones we found were really good. They took it seriously and would often come to me and ask: 'How can we make it better?'"
