91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms showcases best new music films of 2006

The 91Èȱ¬ today announces the film programme for 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms taking place
from 25 to 29 October 2006 in the FREEDM Studios at the Roundhouse, Camden, London.
Ìý
One of
the highlights of the schedule includes the world premiere of a new 91Èȱ¬ TWO Arena documentary on Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, which will open the 91Èȱ¬
Electric Proms festival on Wednesday 25 October.
Ìý
There will also be a screening
of Stewart Copeland's directorial debut Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out,
which charts the rise of The Police, with a Q&A session with the man himself.
Ìý
The film strand of 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms will feature free film screenings at the
Roundhouse every day.
Ìý
Some of the best music films of 2006 have been selected to
be screened, nearly all of which have been hits at film festivals around the
world and have yet to be released in cinemas.
Ìý
Each of the films will be
previewed by music promos or short films linked to some of the acts performing at
this year's 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms or simply stand out shorts and promos that deserve
to be seen again.

3.00pm: Arena: Pete Doherty (Worldwide Premiere)

The worldwide premiere of a new Arena film about Pete Doherty at 91Èȱ¬ Electric
Proms, before its television broadcast on 91Èȱ¬ TWO in November.
Ìý
Pete Doherty is one of the most talked about musicians of our time, but he has received as much
attention for his controversial private life, as for his music.
Ìý
Over several
months Arena has had extensive access to Doherty, filming him on tour and at his
home in London.
Ìý
The film offers an insight into this complex, intriguing man who
is rarely out of the media spotlight.

On 9 October 2004, the Beastie Boys performed at Madison Square Gardens and had
their concert shot entirely by fans. The film was edited by MC Adam Yauch. One
of the top concert films of 2006, it is out now on DVD.

Noon: The US vs John Lennon (special preview)

A special preview of an illuminating and entertaining portrayal of John Lennon,
which specifically covers his years living in the USA and his development into an
increasingly political figure. This film will be in UK cinemas from 8
December, the 26th anniversary of his death.

The premiere of the short films commissioned through the 91Èȱ¬ New Music Shorts
initiative run by 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms, 91Èȱ¬ New Talent and 91Èȱ¬ Film Network.

year's commissions are directed by: Gemma Burditt, Simon Burrill, Joe Tunmer,
Alexander Turvey and Georgina Wu.

Shorts will be screened again during 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms.

3.00pm: Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (special preview)

Ìý
An outstanding film about singer, poet, songwriter and ultimate ladies man
Leonard Cohen featuring interviews with and performances by U2, Rufus Wainwright,
Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker and Nick Cave among others. The film will be in UK
cinemas from 24 November.

Noon: Loudquietloud: a Film About The Pixies (London premiere)

A film about the Pixies and the fraught year they spent together on their reunion
tour in 2004. The film will be out on DVD in the UK on 6 November and has its
first London screening at 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms before touring with Resfest in
November.

91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms is delighted to welcome Stewart Copeland as a guest speaker at
the Roundhouse.

He will discuss his career from his years as a drummer for
The Police to soundtrack composing in Hollywood on productions from Rumblefish to
Desperate Housewives.

Stewart will also introduce his film Everyone Stares: The
Police Inside Out

Stewart Copeland's directorial debut is a fascinating portrait of The Police, cut
together from reels of Super8 footage that captured the band on their meteoric
rise.

Michel Gondry's brilliant Block Party film features Dave Chappelle and street

and the first reunion of the Fugees after seven years. Another great concert
film of 2006 that is out now on DVD and will be coming to 91Èȱ¬ TWOin early 2007.

A concert promoter puts everything on the line for his impossible dream of
reuniting notorious no-shows The Wu-Tang Clan. Rock the Bells gets its first
London screening at 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms before touring with Resfest in November.

New Music Shorts: Premiere at the 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms
Ìý
Along with partners 91Èȱ¬ New Talent and 91Èȱ¬ Film Network, 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms
challenged new film-makers this summer to submit ideas for new music shorts
inspired by tracks supplied by leading independent record labels Ninja Tune,
Warp, 679 Recordings and Domino.

The tracks included songs by M Craft, Grizzly
Bear, Zero DB, and Pop Levi.
Ìý
The film-makers had the opportunity to win a commission, a budget of up to £5,000
and the chance to work with Warp Films to produce their shorts.

From more than 300
entries, five commissions were selected.
Ìý
The film-makers awarded commissions for
the 2006 New Music Shorts are: Gemma Burditt, Simon Burrill, Joe Tumner,
Alexander Turvey and Georgina Wu.

These films are currently in production with
Warp Films and will be premiered at 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms and shown online at 91Èȱ¬
Film Network.
