Paul Weller, The Magic Numbers, The Zutons and The Fratellis complete the line-up for 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms

The 91Èȱ¬ announced today that Paul Weller will be the performer opening the inaugural 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms at the Roundhouse, Camden on Wednesday 25 October.

Ìý

In addition, The Magic Numbers, The Zutons and The Fratellis have also been announced as the final acts to complete a line-up which sees more than 50 artists, from genres ranging from jazz and soul to rock and pop, committed to creating new moments in music.

Ìý

Paul Weller has always had a reputation for pushing musical boundaries, from his early days as leader of the The Jam (who played at the Roundhouse in the Seventies), right up to the most recent release of his As Is Now album.

Ìý

For Electric Proms, the man credited as the elder statesman of pop will create a one-off performance of unique collaborations with heritage and contemporary artists.

Ìý

He will also perform classic tracks from his 30-year career, as well as debuting new, previously unheard material.

Ìý

Weller says of his 91Èȱ¬ Electric Proms performance: "I've not played at the Roundhouse since 1977 so it will be quite nice to go back. I suppose it reminds me of my youth, when I first started playing in London."

Ìý

Joining Weller on the bill will be The Magic Numbers, premiering tracks from their forthcoming album, Those The Brokes.

Ìý

This performance will be the band's first major UK show ahead of their tour in November.

Ìý

Liverpool quartet The Zutons will be funking things up on Friday 27 October, appearing at the Roundhouse on the bill before Godfather of Soul, James Brown.

Ìý

They will take time out before their forthcoming UK tour to perform some of the hits from their latest platinum-selling album Tired of Hanging Around.

Ìý

In addition, three-piece Scots indie rockers The Fratellis have been added to the bill alongside rock legends The Who for a special performance at the Roundhouse on Sunday 29 October.

Ìý

Electric Proms takes place from 25 to 29 October 2006 at the Roundhouse and at satellite venues all over Camden.

Ìý

The event will be broadcast across a number of 91Èȱ¬ television and radio networks including 91Èȱ¬ ONE, 91Èȱ¬ TWO, 91Èȱ¬ THREE, Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, 1Xtra, 6 Music, 91Èȱ¬ Asian Network and 91Èȱ¬ World Service.

Ìý

There will be extensive online coverage, and digital television viewers will be able to enjoy performances on demand at the push of the red button.
