The Chase
The cast and their characters
Rachel Davies is Margaret Wright
Ìý
"Margaret's on HRT. Husband Replacement Therapy, so she says," laughs Rachel. "She was married for 25 years and has a daughter called Shelley, but when her husband didn't even phone her on their 25th anniversary she thought 'sod this. I'm better off on my own'.
Ìý
"She's middle-aged, menopausal and has worked in Mr Williams' practice for 15 years. She's the head nurse and she's a good nurse. She's known Mr Williams a long time and they work well together.
Ìý
"She knows that he's proud of her and he supports her
even when her job is challenged as she's repeatedly late for work. The
hormones are making her sleep through the alarm! But her colleagues, especially
Matt and Clare, are very supportive.
Ìý
"And she loves working with animals. I imagine her to have a menagerie at home. And I've enjoyed filming with the animals. I've worked with them many times before but not as many as The Chase.
Ìý
"We even had a snake which I loved handling. Keith
tried to scare me with it but I'm fine with them so he was disappointed!"
Ìý
Ìý
Liam Garrigan is Matt Lowe
Ìý
"Matt is the youngest at The Chase. By day he's a vet's assistant, by night a wannabe rock god!" laughs Liam. "He's the lead singer of a band called 100% Horse and he thinks he's destined for stardom.
Ìý
"Needless to say that most people who have seen the
band don't think much of them. But we do get to play a gig in the final
episode.
Ìý
"He's a lovable rogue, a bit of a mischief maker. He's finding his feet as a man and he's well liked throughout the surgery. He lives with Clare and they are great mates and confidantes. She turns to him for advice when she starts to get involved with Rick."
Ìý
But being the youngest doesn't mean he's spared any of the big drama in The Chase. Matt discovers that someone has been stealing his gran's pension money by still claiming it even though she died.
Ìý
"Matt has no parental figures in his life and he's living
in his gran's home with Clare, looking after himself. And then he suddenly
has the possibility of a fraud investigation thrust upon him.
Ìý
"There's the threat of police and courts, so Matt is very relieved when his gran's friend and George's new wife Claudie offers to help. Until she betrays his trust."
Ìý
Despite spending his days filming with a rabbit with maggots in its ears, a boa constrictor and out on a farm with several mucky piglets, Liam admits that his biggest challenge on set was being a wannabe rock god.
Ìý
"Me and singing is not a match made in heaven. I've been
for a couple of musical auditions but I'm not a confident singer. My latest
one was for Aladdin with Ian McKellen and within 10 seconds I could see
the light go out behind their eyes!
Ìý
"I've got to sing two songs in this. Originally I was going to have to perform Bryan Adams' Everything I Do, but fortunately they came to their senses and now I'm doing Extreme's More Than Words and The Beatles' In My Life.
Ìý
"It was great. I spent a day in a recording studio with a band in Leeds just
jamming and laying down the vox. It was a really great laugh. Everyone wants
to be a rock star but I'm not about to become the next Robson and Jerome! But
I was pleasantly surprised by how it sounded."
