New weekend line up completes revitalised 91Èȱ¬ Asian Network schedule
The 91Èȱ¬ Asian Network completes the schedule evolution that started in April with four new Saturday music shows this weekend.
Ìý
On Sundays there's a new place for language programming and a new time, of 2.00pm, for the omnibus edition of award-winning soap Silver Street.
Ìý
The new Saturday music shows are:
Ìý
The Jump Off (5.00-8.00pm) with the Mentor Kolektiv. The London-based Kolektiv (comprising Mentor, singer Des-C, rapper AC and DJ Mak) will kick off proceedings with an upbeat mix of Bhangra, desi beats, Bollywood and urban;
Ìý
Electro East (8.00-10.00pm) - new signing for Electro East is Nerm from Shiva Sound System. Every Saturday the show will plug into the left-field underground Asian club-circuit - ranging from electronic Asiatic breakbeat and desi drum 'n' bass to alternative Asian punk...
Ìý
Nerm is a dj/producer with a background ranging from pivotal club night Swaraj to time as the front-man of electronic indo-punk band Charged. He has founded several other club nights including Supersonic Buddha, Mahatma's Revenge and Eastern Drum & Breaks;
Ìý
Mic Check (10.00pm-midnight) - Asian MCs, rap, hip-hop and everything urban with Foreign Beggars;
Ìý
Pathaan's Musical Rickshaw (midnight-2.00am) - chill out in the early hours with Pathaa - a journey to India and back via Lahore, Istanbul, Marakech and Paris...
Ìý
Pathaan brings the best in globetronica and Asian chill, and a background of specialist dj experience stretching from Talvin Singh's Anokha, through to his acclaimed Sunset and Stoned Asia compilation series.
Ìý
On Sundays (10.00am-noon) new signing Murtz takes over Sunday Soundtrack.
Ìý
He proved to be a popular cover presenter for Ameet Chana over the past year and has enjoyed a successful TV presenting career with Zee TV and his own show Mutz (sic) Cutz.
Ìý
Murtz is followed on Sundays by Breakdown with Ameet Chana (noon-2.00pm). Ameet
moves from Sunday Soundtrack to a specialist Bhangra show.
Ìý
He brings a solid background in Bhangra stretching back to the late Eighties through his affiliation with Multitone Records X-Zecutive DJs.
Ìý
As part of the new schedule the weekend Punjabi and Gujarati programmes move to Sunday nights.
Ìý
Asian Network Head Vijay Sharma said: "This new weekend schedule completes the first part of our transformation of the station.
Ìý
"There is a real freshness to the weekend schedule, talented new presenters, a new time for Silver Street and a key place for languages.
Ìý
"This is a really exciting time for the station and a real opportunity to champion new genres of music and, particularly, new talent."
Ìý
