Character breakdowns
Main teachers
Ìý
Jack Rimmer (Jason Merrells)
The reluctant new Headmaster who prefers to deal with personal
and professional problems over a pint at the pub. Jack is more than willing
to handball any of his responsibilities on to others, in particular new
Deputy Andrew.
Ìý
Andrew Treneman (Jamie Glover)
Andrew is the new Deputy
Head - Oxbridge educated and poached from the local private school
to bring some order in to Waterloo Road. Old fashioned and a strict
disciplinarian, Andrew isn't receptive to new, contemporary ideas
and has possibly overestimated his ability to turn the school around.
Ìý
Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin)
Head of Guidance at Waterloo Road – Kim is relentlessly optimistic that people can be taught to change for the better. She is determined to improve the school but doesn't necessarily agree with new Deputy Andrew's methods. However, she secretly admires his dedication.
Ìý
Izzie Redpath (Jill Halfpenny)
Warm with bags of charisma, Izzie is the Drama and Movement
teacher. She is popular with the students for her 'sod the rules'
approach and good friends with teachers Lorna and Tom. But their
friendship is about to be tested when some hidden feelings are revealed.
She's also single mum to daughters Mika and Chlo who attend the school.
Ìý
Tom Clarkson (Jason Done)
An English teacher – the boys like him because he doesn't push them and the girls fancy him because he is good looking. He is an "in it for the holidays" teacher who lives with his fiancée and fellow teacher, Lorna. He knows their relationship is in a rut as he has fallen out of love with her, but he reluctantly goes ahead with the wedding anyway.
Ìý
Lorna Dickey (Camilla Power)
Lorna is a teacher who does it by the book. She
is not a favourite with the students but she's punctual, professionally-dressed
and very organised, quite the opposite to boyfriend Tom. She is
desperate to marry him and it looks like she is finally about to get her
chance.
Ìý
Grantly Budgen (Philip Martin Brown)
Grantly is Head of
English and a slightly scruffy, tired teacher. He lacks conviction
about anything and has become cynical and disenchanted with the teaching
profession.
Ìý
Steph Haydock (Denise Welch)
Steph is a hopeless French teacher,
and in complete denial about her true teaching capabilities. She
is extremely flirty and vivacious, although has quite a low self-esteem.
She's got her eye on Jack, now he's been promoted to Headmaster
and she won't take no for an answer.
Ìý
Main students
Ìý
Mika Grainger (Lauren Drummond)
Mika is Issie's eldest
daughter but their once close relationship has been severely tested
since Issie split with her dad.
Ìý
Chlo Grainger (Katie Griffiths)
Is the youngest of
Izzie's two daughters and a rebellious student at Waterloo Road.
Chlo comes across as confident, but this is a front, as underneath
it all she's not yet sure of herself. She's the girlfriend of popular,
cool fellow student Donte, much to her mum's dislike.
Ìý
Donte Charles (Adam Thomas)
Tough, mouthy,
bolshy and arrogant, Donte can't stand authority and disobeys
rules. He genuinely likes his girlfriend Chlo and essentially has a good
heart but feels he needs to put on a tough face in order to be
respected by his peers.
Ìý
Janeece (Chelsee Healy)
A mouthy
and cocky little madam who trots about the school like lady
muck. She is flirty with the boys and likes to out shine the other
girls. You wouldn't want to cross her but if she's on your side she is
loyal and would defend you to the end.
Ìý
Lewis (Craig Fitzpatrick)
He's one of the bad lads – a
rebel, arrogant and dangerous.
Lewis doesn't respect anyone
but himself and is
not afraid of a
fight.
