Giardello.

When another clip arrives from the killer, the team are able to pinpoint
Giardello's location - in the vast stainless steel vats of a disused
brewery.
Ìý
They arrive too late; he is dead. He was dead before the first email
arrived.
Ìý
On the wall they find words written in Italian which resonate with
Red: 'I am the way into eternal grief. I am the way to the people lost.
Abandon every hope all ye who enter.'
Ìý
They are words from Dante's Inferno. Red makes the connection between
Dante's description of Hell and the previous victims' fate.
Ìý
Catherine McArdle's death represents the "Vestibule" known as Gehenna
- a garbage dump outside Jerusalem.

- the "Limbo" described in Dante's first circle of hell.
Ìý
The lovers represent "The Carnal" in Circle II.
Ìý
John Giardello represents "The Gluttonous" from Circle III.
Ìý
Red knows there are nine circles in Dante's vision of Hell: "The Greedy",
"The Wrathful", "Heretics", "The Violent", "The Fraudulent" and "The
Traitors" are still to come.
Ìý
Red knows that the horror is just beginning.
Ìý
After Circle V, the killer will have entered lower hell where darker
punishments await the damned.
Ìý
As the search for the killer intensifies, a suspect - university lecturer
Richard Eccleshall - is arrested. Convinced that Eccleshall also murdered
his daughter Isabel, Jack Price wants vengeance.
