91Èȱ¬ THREE Autumn 2005 & Winter 2006 press pack

Funny

91Èȱ¬ THREE has a hard-won reputation for comedy, one of the most difficult genres to crack.

Ìý

Recent research for the 91Èȱ¬ showed that the channel is regarded by all audiences as the best for alternative British comedy.

Ìý

This season we're launching Tittybangbang and Man Stroke Woman – two typically bizarre and surreal sketch shows – alongside Grown Ups, from the creators of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, which we hope audiences will be as excited about as the return of some iconic 91Èȱ¬ THREE favourites.

Ìý

Nighty Night

Ìý

"Even darker than Monkey Dust, even more inspired than Little Britain, this is the funniest British comedy I've seen in years" - Evening Standard

Ìý

Winner of the British Comedy Award for Best New TV Comedy, the Rose D'Or Award for Best Sitcom and RTS Television Awards for Best Situation Comedy or Comedy Drama and Best Writer – Comedy.

Ìý

TV's most twisted serial killer is back.

Ìý

Having successfully framed Glen for all her murders, for which he is being detained at Her Majesty's pleasure in an institution for the mentally insane, Jill is moving on with her life.

Ìý

However, when her new boyfriend Paolo runs off with Glen's money, Jill sets her sights on Cornwall where Cath and Don Cole are currently working through their marital problems at the Trees Therapy Centre.

Ìý

Aided and abetted by her good friend Linda, she descends on the Coles with one objective in mind – getting Don back.

Ìý

Nighty Night is written by and stars Julia Davis, and co-stars Angus Deayton and Rebecca Front.

Ìý

The executive producers are Steve Coogan and Henry Normal.

Ìý

A Baby Cow production.

Man Stroke Woman

Ìý

"Friends are a total pain in the arse," says producer Ash Atalla (The Office).

Ìý

"But they're also the new family for a thirty-something. Man Stroke Woman is a new sketch show about your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your kids and the girl you fancy in the accounts department."

Ìý

An ensemble cast of quality comedy actors – Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Nick Burns (Nathan Barley), Daisy Haggard (Green Wing) and Amanda Abbington (Teachers) – perform on-the-edge sketches...

Ìý

A kitchen. Dave is placing some carrots into a steamer. The oven is lit up and sizzling noises are coming from within. Dave finishes and looks pleased with himself. Dave: "Mummy says I can't cook, but we'll show her, won't we, eh? Yes we will." Dave sniffs the air. Dave: "Ahh, smell that lovely turkey. Daddy is the kitchen king. He is. And, because you've been such a good little baby, you can have some chocolate pud pud. Yes you can. Aren't you a lucky..?" Dave looks towards a high chair in the corner of the kitchen. An uncooked turkey is jammed into the seat. Dave looks at the oven. His eyes widen with alarm. The cooker timer pings...

Ideal

Ìý

"Once again, 91Èȱ¬ THREE has bolstered its reputation as a breeding ground for the best new comedy on 91Èȱ¬ THREE" - Daily Telegraph

Ìý

Johnny Vegas returns to the role of Moz, the small-time dope dealer, in 91Èȱ¬ THREE's hit comedy Ideal.

Ìý

Shot entirely within Moz’s Manchester flat, Ideal depicts a world of "sex and drugs and on the dole".

Ìý

Moz has become besotted with his new neighbour – the myopic Judith – and, intent on upping his income, he's installing a hydroponics set up in the loft.

Ìý

Meanwhile, sinister masked hit-man Cartoon Head is planning a kidnapping. And Moz's girlfriend Nicki is about to give birth to a baby that may or may not be his.

Ìý

Alongside Johnny Vegas, the cast includes Nicola Reynolds (Nicki), James Foster (Cartoon Head), Tom Goodman-Hill (PC), Sinead Matthews (Jenny), Ben Crompton (Colin), Ronny Jhutti (Kuldip), Jason Manford (Jack) and Natalie Gumede (China), with other names to be confirmed.

Ìý

Written by Graham Duff with additional material from Tony Burgess, Ideal is a co-venture between 91Èȱ¬ Comedy North and Baby Cow productions.

Grown Ups

Ìý

A brand new comedy from the creators of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

Ìý

Michelle is 26 years old, living in Manchester's Northern Quarter with her beautician friend Claire, dating Dean and hurtling towards her thirties.

Ìý

Suddenly Michelle is beset with life's difficult questions: "Where do I want to be in life? Why don't I own my own home? And should I buy blueberries – because they cleanse your blood – or save the £2.50 and buy a packet of Monster Munch instead?"

Ìý

Michelle's brother Mike is thrown out of home by his parents only to land on her doorstep with his ironic (read rubbish) record collection and best friend Grant in tow.

Ìý

Now it starts to get complicated: Dean wants an open relationship with Michelle but Michelle, infatuated with Dean, certainly doesn't; Grant is infatuated with Michelle; Mike can't stand Dean; and Claire, well Claire is concerned with maintaining her tan and trying to stick to her nutritional detox.

Ìý

All of them are trying, unsuccessfully, to be a grown up.

Ìý

Written by Susan Nickson and produced by Stephen McCrum, Grown Ups stars Sheridan Smith (Michelle), Steven Meo (Grant), Rob Rouse (Michael), OT Fagbenle (Dean) and Fiona Wass (Claire).

Little Britain

Ìý

With more awards tucked underneath its laydee's petticoats than Bubbles has rolls of fat, the time has come once again for Little Britain to open its crowded shores for business.

Ìý

While all the horribly familiar faces are back, from teen bad dream Vicky Pollard to oversized and underfinanced health spa addict Bubbles, there are of course some new faces to welcome into the fold.

Ìý

But more of them later in the year.

Ìý

"But so many questions remain unanswered," we hear you cry.

Ìý

"Will computer ever say 'Yes', will we ever get to meet the real Emily and Florence, and just how will Daffyd cope with not being the only gay in the village? Surely you can tell us a little more?"

Ìý

Alas, computer says "No".

Ìý

Awards include Bafta Television Awards (Best Comedy Programme or Series), British Comedy Awards (Best TV Comedy and People's Choice Award), Festival Rose d'Or (Best Male Comedy Performance and Best Comedy) and the South Bank Show Awards (Comedy).
